Dr Sharmila Ramessur Chandran is a distinguished and accomplished renal physician in Southeast Melbourne, who stands out for her excellence in both medical education and healthcare leadership and a remarkable career spanning 3 continents.

She is currently President-elect of RACP, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians connect, train, and represent over 30,000 medical specialists and trainee specialists from 33 different specialties across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

About Dr. Chandran

Over the past decade, Dr Chandran has played pivotal roles in medical education and advocacy within RACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) and ANZSN (Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology), including serving as program director for ANZSN’s update course and leading RACP’s leadership course. She is also actively engaged with the Epworth Clinical School at the University of Melbourne and has previously served as a board director for Kerang District Health and Leongatha Hospital.

Originally from Mauritius, Sharmila earned a scholarship to pursue Medicine at the University of Melbourne. Following her graduation, she embarked on an internship in the United Kingdom, where she completed her basic physician training before returning to Australia.

In Melbourne, Sharmila completed her specialist training and earned a PhD through. Monash University before undertaking a clinical fellowship in renal transplantation at Toronto General Hospital. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master’s in Health Administration from Monash University and becoming a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Currently she is pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Education at the University of Melbourne, showcasing her ongoing commitment to professional development and excellence.
